Family policies

Photos of your child

We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.

Watching class and sash tests

Parents of students aged 5 to 7 sit on the bench by the window for every class. Families of older students are welcome at the bench on any day, and the first Saturday of the month is an open watch day. At a sash test or a demonstration, please keep your phone on silent and your seat quiet, and film from where you sit, with no flash.

What to wear and bring

Come in a plain t-shirt and loose pants for the first class; we lend a uniform for that visit. Shoes stay off the mat. Jewelry comes off, hair is tied back and nails are short. Bring a water bottle.

When to keep your child home

Please keep your student home when they are unwell, and until they have been well for a full day. Text or call the school and we will tell you how a missed class can be made up.

Drop-off and pickup

A parent or a named adult brings and collects every student under 12. The instructor hands each child to the person who came with them, and we ask for identification from anyone we haven't met. Students stay in the room until their adult arrives.

Closures for weather and holidays

We close for Thanksgiving week, the winter break and one week in the summer, and for any day the neighborhood schools close for an emergency. We text every family the same morning.

Leaving the program

Tell us in writing 30 days ahead to stop or to pause. The month in progress is billed as usual, and a uniform that is already yours stays yours.

Screens and phones

Phones stay on silent and in bags during class. Filming in class is only with the instructor's say-so, and please keep other children out of your shots. At a demonstration, film your own student from your seat.
